Black and White, Cooperation and Confrontation, Equanimity and Self-irony – these contradictory concepts are mixed together in an art project of BEVZA and LITKOVSKAYA.

For quite a while black and white in Ukranian fashion are associated with these two designers. This time the colors will be like shields, arming LITKOVSKAYA and BEVZA in their duel – honest, uncompromising, with unexpected final. Indeed, the attempt to demarcate any dual characters always leads to the same result – they are opposite only at first glance. In fact, the black has as much white as the white contains black.

Minimalism, compliex cut, monochrome colours – these tools are common to both of us, we use them to implement our ideas – says Lilia Litkovskaya, – at the same time, we are both very different and this contradiction makes our work more interesting.

The battle is interesting only between strong contenders. The project visualizes the game of ambitions, shows two separate integrity of the inner world. Black and white are two poles of perception, two points of view of one reality – commented Svetlana Bevza.

The most charismatic models were invited to take in art-video – Olimpia Whitemustache, Nadia Shapoval, Julia Hromtsova, Pauline Moroz, Valeria Samodaeva and Olga Cherkasskaya.

Director – Sasha Stekolenko (Creative Buro), operator – Denis Lushchik, music – Alexey Gorchitza (Gorchitza Live Project).

Two of the brightest women of the 20th century, enigmatic movie legend Marlene Dietrich and grand dame of protest rock Patti Smith inspired Lilia Litkovskaya. These style icons are famous for their androgynous style and interpretations of the strong masculine image.
Emphasized sexuality of Marlene Dietrich and Patti Smith’s nonchalant appearance are two powerful sources for the collection. Investigating this duality of female nature, the designer explores notions of ambuguity and femininity that bring new accents to her work.
This collection brings together two elements – masculine and feminine, one symbolizing the authoritarianism and pragmatism, another speaking of sensitivity and candor. Combined into a single image, they represent a woman who has a strong sense of style and controled elegance.
LITKOVSKAYA revisits the theme of classic tailored pantsuit. Drawing inspiration from the 40s, the designer introduces a fitted silhouette of jackets with a strong shoulder line, mixing it with wide elongated trousers with exagerrated cuffs. Massive draped jackets and tops are worn with leather skirts with torn edges. Preference is given to mat surfaces of light pinstripe suit wools, as well as to glossy surfaces of natural mohair, waxed leather and satin silk.
LITKOVSKAYA stays true to monochromatic color palette in ascetic combinations of black, white and subtle shades of gray — from light-pigeon to deep anthracite. The designer emphasizes its elegance and mathematical precision breaking it with the splashes of emerald green and pearl blue.
As an evening offer LITKOVSKAYA shows asymmetrical dresses, elongated tops and draped bustiers in combinations of silk, leather and velvet, worn over wide trousers. As a deliberate dissonance aimed to break the austerity and formality of the collection, the designer introduces leopard print, a universal symbol, courtesy of the old European luxury, the beatnik rebellion and society of consumption kitsch. In the end, a leopard patch-pocket on a assymetric pinstripe wool dress and a silk lining of a heavily draped evening cape appear to be another accolades to the great myth of Marlene Dietrich and indomitable spirit of Patti Smith.

One of the world’s most demanded models and Raf Simons’ favorite, Ukrainian top model Mariya Markina becomes the face of LITKOVSKAYA Spring-Summer 2013 collection.

During her career, Mariya Markina has walked in key fashion shows in Paris, Milan and New York – Dior, Jil Sander, Rick Owens, YSL, Valentino, Versace, Kenzo to name but few. Her portfolio includes editorials for Vogue, V Magazine, Harpers Bazaar etc. This season the top model exclusively features in LITKOVSKAYA SS 2013 campaign.

Markina perfectly illustrates the idea of the collection – a combination of affection and FEMALE sexuality that any woman can relate to. Exploring stereotypes of femininity and sexuality in fashion, LITKOVSKAYA worked with very precise and recognizable clichés – fitted silhouette with accentuated waistline, bare shoulders and deep cleavage, delicate leather treatments, coquettish polka-dot prints and embroidery – but reworking them in her trademark style of restricted sensuality and minimalist approach.

Staying true to what has become label’s signatures – complicated construction with apparent simplicity of shape, architectural rigidness of silhouettes, muted colour palette – LITKOVSKAYA tried to achieve purity and solidness of the designs.

Lilia Litkovskaya (designer): “The cooperation with KM 20 takes us to a whole new level, opening a new range of customers which is very interesting for us. I have been a great fan of the KM 20 for a long time – theirs incredible collections of brands and the breathtaking interior! It is a great news and big honor to be arranged next to such a famous brands as Raf Simons, Hussein Chalayan, A.F. Vandevorst etc. ”

Olga Karput (the owner of KM20): “We like to experiment with new brands that aren’t present in Moscow, but, for example, respected and valued at a local level. We have had few Russian designers, and now it is time for Ukrainian brand to be appreciated in Moscow. All Lily’s clothes are of high quality and incredible cut. She has a serious attitude and approach to the image and reputation of her own brand, that’s why we went for this cooperation.”

Litkovskaya and ELLE Ukraine collaboration keeps generating new projects. This time it’s a video installation for ART KIEV Contemporary International Forum 2012.

Director Alexander Kosenko and model Maria Markina were invited to realize the idea.

Alexander Kosenko, director and author:
“The INTERACTION” is about an inner cry of a city girl – fragile and helpless. She is lost and captured in the forest world, where the usual values of big cities are inapplicable and meaningless. Finding herself alone, away from usual urban life, with it’s bunch of calls, meetings and general fuss, it becomes possible for her to see her inner emptiness, and to hear just her
own voice full of fear and misunderstanding. It is difficult to run away from yourself. You will always come back to your own fear, and this running in circles makes you open your eyes and see your helplessness.
I was very happy to shoot in a such a confederate team. Nowdays very few people are able to approve the absence of makeup or retouching, and the sound – it is complete improvisation performed by the instrument, which wasn’t tuned for more than half a century. This video adheres to the Dogma 95 manifest for me, and I plan to move in this direction in the future”.

Lilia Litkovskaya:
“It was very interesting new experience making an art-video. The most important here is the director’s idea,
everything else is secondary, and just revolves around it. Our clothes are just one of the tools, and that’s great, because clothes are created for exactly such cases – to emphasize the individuality and character.
During filming, we were so much captivated by Masha Markina charisma, that we asked her to become the face of our summer collection”.

Sonia Zabuga, chief editor of ELLE Ukraine:
“ELLE and designer Lily Litkovskaya are old friends. We are pleased to invite everyone to a joint video performance as part of the Art Kiev Contemporary. In the film of Alexander Kosenko INTERACTION you will discover a new side of the designer. This time, in a black and white video installation format that is mysteriously fascinating and intriguing”.

The starting point for the collection, a mystic rosebud, designer Lilia Litkovskaya found in Orson Welles’ movie Citizen Kane. With the symbol of unrealizable dream and utopian ideas of childhood, the rosebud, designer started conversation about the phenomena of femininity, questioning its perception through the prism of mass media and popular culture.

Exploring stereotypes of femininity and sexuality in fashion, LITKOVSKAYA worked very precise and recognizable clichés: fitted silhouette with accented waistline, bare shoulders and cleavage, delicate leather treatment, coquettish polka-dot prints and embroidery.

Staying true to what has become label’s signatures – complicated construction with apparent simplicity of shape, architectural rigidness of silhouettes, muted colour palette – LITKOVSKAYA tried to achieve purity and solidness of the designs.

Laconic white dress closed the show. What has become a tradition at LITKOVSKAYA, white dress is a symbol of tabula rasa that marks an end of one story and celebrates the beginning of another.

LITKOVSKAYA was founded in 2006. Holder of numerous professional awards, Lilia Litkovskaya was named the Best Womenswear of the Year at Best Fashion Awards in 2011.

Today LITKOVSKAYA collections are sold in select concept stores INVOGA (Kiev, Ukraine), PODIUM (Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine), KM 20 (Moscow, Russia) as well as in LITKOVSKAYA Showroom (Kiev, Ukraine) and on the Internet retailer SUITSTER.COM.
